Coast Salish territories are home to diverse and stunning communities of plants. Native plants share many gifts with us, including food, medicines and fiber. Planting these allies welcomes their beauty into our urban gardens, along with the pollinators, birds and other wildlife that rely on them.

This year, EYA is launching our annual Native Plant Fundraiser with a virtual Native Plant Garden Design workshop! Guided by botanist Kristen Miskelly, this workshop will share key considerations on caring for native plants and discuss how plants can support biodiversity across a variety of urban habitats (including shade gardens, boulevards, backyards and patios), featuring the native plants included in this year’s EYA Fundraiser bundles.

Note: This workshop will be recorded and the recording will be shared with attendees so they can reference Kristen’s tips whenever working on their own Native Plant Gardens!

About the Facilitator: Kristen Miskelly (she/hers) is a biologist who empowers people to connect with nature through native plants. She is passionate about native plants, ecology, ecosystem restoration, and native plant propagation, and shares this love with the community through her business Satinflower Nurseries, as a co-leader of the Meadow Makers program, sessional instructor at the University of Victoria, and as an ecological consultant to various agencies and groups around the province.
